Several plants have been manufactured for the abatement of mist of plasticizers in the PVC synthetic leather production, in the production and storage of asphalt and in the abatement, with solvent recovery, of bitumen bands for pipes anticorrosion protection.
The plants are realized with coalescent filtering elements, without any fire risk, and have replaced both electrostatic filters and combustors, with usual re-use of the recovered product and with a plasticizer emission below 2 mg/m3. To retain the other pollutants that may be are present in the emission, a second cooling unit is added to the plant.
The most of the plasticizer used in the PVC spreading (DOP; DIDP; DNP), extruding or calendering, remains in the final product, but a part is vented trough the oven exhaust, leaving the stack on a mist form.
Combustion
is not suitable for such emissions, due to the presence in the exhaust
of traces of the paste charges residues as Chlorine, Nitrogen and Phosphor
that are very polluting elements.
Electrostatic filters have been abandoned due to the high power consumption, when clogged, and for the high dielectric constant of plasticizers and for the continuous rising of the emission at bigger inlet concentration variation, that very often happens due to the large variety of spread products.
Any kind of mist with liquid or solid content, if this latter is soluble in water, can be treated in this Omniatex SPA kind of plant. The basic process employed is the the polluted air filtration on filtering elements usually called candles, micro fibreglass elements or Brink filters.
